The Responsibility Chart pays off!

Carter has done a wonderful job with her chores and responsibilities!  Her chores include setting the table and clearing her things, and getting ready for bed.  She’s also responsible for not whining.  We wanted her to be successful, so we started small (she’s already wanting to throw in more chores!).  We also wanted her to see that hard work pays off.

And today, it did!  As a reward for a great week, she choose to go ice skating.  So we hit the rink.  She more runs on skates than really skates, but she had a great time!

After awhile, she got brave and would skate/run on her own …

… until she bit it, then she wouldn’t let go of my hand.  She kept saying, “Ohhh!  My butt hurts!”

Week 19 happenings …

Week 19 has brought Charlie closer to mobility (yikes!)!  He is able to roll from his back to his tummy, and now (when he chooses to) his tummy to back.  When he’s on his tummy, he pushed himself way up on his forearms, to what looks like a pre-crawl position (it’s not, but he means business!).  He’s getting better with the cereal.  We’ve had to tweak our ratio of cereal to formula to bananas: one baby spoon of cereal, three baby spoons of milk and one baby spoon of bananas, heated to warm.  Then he’ll gum it down, but not always happily!  He’s learned to manipulate his tongue, and it’s very sweet (but I think he knows it’s sweet, and he won’t let me “catch” him doing it yet!).  It makes him smile!  And his giggles are becoming more routine.  We think he’ll have the same belly laugh Carter had/has.

Saturday we visited Grandma and Grandpa Chalupa, and hung out with Uncle Brian, Aunt Anna and the girls (Courtney is 4 1/2 and Marissa is 10 months).  Charlie and Marissa are having a baby race!

The girls didn’t go to sleep until about 11pm Saturday night and were up bright at early at 6:30am Sunday morning.  This is their table-fort.  They filled it with all the necessities:  blankies, toys, Courtney’s coat, the Cooties …

1531-2.27.10 066.JPG

… then they needed a bath!  Crazy brains!!!

And this was Daddy’s sweater.  I bet Daddy’s was just as adorable as Charlie!
That tongue thing is almost noticeable in this photo!

The BIG snow of 2010

It has been a record breaking year for snow.  In the metro, we’ve gotten over 50 inches of snow so far, and we still have 20 days until spring.

But it warmed enough for Carter and I to enjoy an afternoon outside.  She was so excited to climb the mountains of snow!

1518-2.11.2010 049.JPG

Carter is 44 inches tall.  The snow along our front walkway is up to her shoulders.  I’m so tired of shoveling scoopfuls of snow and trying to find a place to put it!

1520-2.11.2010 059.JPG

On a normal summer day, Carter can’t reach the rings.  Even with her best jump, she’s not even close!  But with 5 feet of snow, it’s an easy task!

1521-2.11.2010 063.JPG

Our own little sledding hill!  Carter’s nearly as tall as our tree!

1522-2.11.2010 077.JPG

That’s the 6 foot fence next to our neighbor’s.  We climbed to the top, and Carter stepped over the fence to the neighbors.  Not cool, Mother Nature.  Not cool.

Enjoying the snow … with so much, what else can we do?!!

Week 18 happenings …

It was a busy week, but we managed to catch the cuteness!

1512-2.20.10 031.JPG

The nights of back sleeping are done for Charlie.  Within minutes of being laid on his back, he’ll flip himself over to his tummy and fall fast asleep.  This, however, was an adorable non-sleepy moment!

Saturday brought a massive tantrum (over her computer not working, which it would have in 10 seconds because Andy rebooted something).  So we’re beginning Carter’s Responsibility Chart.  She’s working on #1: no whining, #2: picking up toys, #3: setting the table and #4: getting ready for bed.  If she can do all of these things without being asked more than once for the entire week, she and I are going ice skating Saturday.  So far, she’s ALL OVER IT!  She asked to put on jammies at 4:30, so she’d be ready!

What a wild imagination and silly side!

Giggle box in the making!

Grant & Collin's 4th birthday party!

Tuesday, the boys turned 4.  Unbelievable, I know!  Collin is still Mr. Sweet, taking the situation all in before jumping.  Grant is Mr. Wildman, not only jumping first, but doing so with a howl!  What a great year, boys!  Have a wonderful time being 4 (it rules!)!  We love ya!!!

Week 17 happenings …

Charlie’s officially 4 months old.  Can you believe it, already?!  He continues to be a mellow, laid back dude.  He’s wanting to get moving, but has only “mastered” a partial roll from his back to his right side (our pediatrician says that’s a sign that he’s most likely a righty).  He’s trying to get ahold of more thing each day: necklaces, shirts, the cat’s tail, just about anything he can get his mitts on!

Carter’s had a great week, continuing to work on letters and preparing for Valentine’s day.  She’s signed her name to 22 preschool cards and 16 daycare cards!  She’s getting pretty good!  Monday is her appointment to have her arm checked up – hopefully she and Daddy come home cast-free!

1484-2.11.10 004.JPG

That’s a great idea, Oliver!  Given that he’s always into everything, I kinda do feel sorry for the wetness that followed!

Charlie's 4 month check up

Charlie had a great 4 month check up.  He’s healthy (a little boogie’ish, but healthy), and a happy guy!

1481-2.13.10 005.JPG

4 month grand totals:
Weight: 17 pounds, 12 ounces (93 percentile)
Height: 25 inches (75 percentile)

We also go the GO to begin “real” food, starting with rice cereal.  Carter would only eat it when we mixed in bananas.  I figured Charlie would be the same way.  Wrong!  He just plain hated it!

1482-2.13.10 008.JPG

1 part rice cereal, 1 part bananas, 1 part formula = deliciousness???

Charlie's 4 month wellness visit

Charlie’s 4 month wellness check-up is tomorrow.  They will weigh and measure him, and possibly do shots.

Week 16 happenings ….

Ahh!  No more pink eye, and the sinus infection is going away.  We’re all back to good health (minus the cast), and we’ve had a great week!

Charlie’s been trying to roll over.  He can get from his back nearly over to his tummy, but he gets hung up on his shoulder.  He continues to be a smiley guy.  He’s also a great eater – he actually tricked us out of TWO bottles this evening at his 6pm feeding (I fed him 6oz at 5:45 while Andy was out.  When he came home and I was cooking dinner, Andy fed him ANOTHER 6oz at 6pm.  He later entered a food-induced coma!).

Carter’s been a busy little bee, too.  She’s perfecting lower-case letters at preschool, and she’s really started using great manners lately!  Be checking you mailboxes – she’s been working on “something special” for the people closest to our hearts!

1472-2.6.10 009.JPG

Working on the sitting.  Thursday Charlie has his 4-month baby wellness check-up, and we’ll get the go-ahead to start food.  To start food, he needs to be able to sit up at the table.  There’s your motivation, Chubby Bunny: sit up for nanas!
